It’s that time of the year again; The annual OSPA short film competition. I had very little time left and although I had wanted to involve the wonderful cast I used last year, there just wasn’t time to put it all together. I had a single evening window of opportunity to get the whole thing shot!
This years theme was an object. Filmmakers could choose a box, a gumboot or a newspaper to add as an key prop. I went for the box option as I imagine many will have.
Having committed myself to a stage show at the theatre, I has access to the costume department. I borrowed a cute little outfit for my son to wear. My daughter already has enough outfits. The next step was setting up a scene and letting them play. They did the rest. I watched the footage during a break and then formulated the plot… A few extra scenes were contrived and finally, a mere 3 hours into the process, the principal photography was done. The actual voice over and editing took me another day, in between dinner/bedtime routines, and the end product still makes me chuckle.
How will it do at the film competition? The standard of entries has been getting better each year, so we can only cross our fingers and hope!
